Kane Corvus Interview

Every Month we like to give our headliners a chance
to tell us a bit about themselves
(though this is open to all of our poets,
if you would like a short 'Interview'
then drop me a Dm on Insta or FB)

This month we have the chance to hear a set
by Derby based spoken word performer Kane Corvus,
who has just published a collection of poems
and has been gigging up and down the country.
As well as featuring on BBC Upload.
He has kindly taken a bit of time out of his busy schedule
to send us answers to our little interview.

When did you start writing poetry?

Do you remember what your first pieces were about?

I did pieces at school, in the English class
as part of the curriculum
but I attempted my first poem/ lyrical piece at 16.
I badly ripped off skid row lol

Why do you write poetry?

What is your favourite thing about it?

I enjoy the creative and artistic process.
The whole cycle of inspiration, write,
polish, record, perform.

When it comes to your own work, how would you describe it?

What themes inspire you?

Tell us a little more about your work, and what moves you.

I'm inspired by everything around me.
It's very autobiographical. Feelings, emotions, reflection etc

In Leicester we are trying to unite the poetry scene

in collaboration with other poetry nights,

How would you describe the Leicester poetry scene,

and what, in your opinion could be improved upon?

I gig a lot, UK wide and I will say
Leicester is surprisingly busy for spoken word,
with much more available
and better run events than a lot of larger cities.
Leicester is good for poetry for sure.

Do you have any favourite poets,

both locally and further afield

that you would like to share.

Sassoon, Blake, Henry Rollins. Lots of band lyricists.

If people want to follow your social media,

where can they find you.
