Stumbling, crashing around.
Still slightly hungover
from too many Christmas treats.
Sickly ache in its stomach
from too many
chocolate midnight feasts.
Get Mouthy steps
into the cold, frosty
first days of a new year.
A year still finding
it's newborn feet.
Snow forming in the air,
trying to take hold,
but the fire in the room
scares the ice away.
January can often seem like everyone
is trying to find their place again.
After the Christmas/New year time sink.
Money is low, cold winds blow.
So, it's usually a tad slow.
so was only expecting a light dusting
of poetry, just a gentle gust,
with a few glittery sparkles to light the pathway.
And by 19:15 I was even more convinced
it was going to be a quiet night,
when only a small band of people
had braved the cold night.
Little did I know that we
would have a full-on blizzard bursting
through the doors.
No seats going spare.
20 poets taking the stage.
full of verses to share.
January is
a time of reflection
and contemplation,
and this was
the overarching theme
of this poetic celebration.
Our collection of wonderful poets
beautifully expressed
their thoughts and stories.
There was some brevity and light
to burst through
the clouds of deep thought,
a perfect blend of shades.
Tears and laughter,
memories that won't fade.
We welcomed even more new faces,
Always a delight to hear
new voices
making their first
Steps on this journey.
And so far, we have had
some absolutely
brilliant newcomers
Who are already starting
to make themselves
know all over the city.
Not least
Kerry and Andrea
who both managed to win
the Some-Antics slam
on their first attempts.
So proud of you both.
Let's see if we can keep doing this!
We also had a lot of
our regular little family of poets
Coming together,
sharing their words,
their warmth
and support to each other.
Every month
I come away smiling,
It's such a beautiful feeling,
when we can share
something so special.
So much love to all of you,
and those that come to support
and enjoy the artistry.
Every single one of you
makes this night
so special and unique.
thank you.
Already looking forward to next time.
But before then
it is the Some-Antics Championship Slam
where all of last year’s winners
come back for one big slam.
And so many of our faces will be there.
Me, Carolina, Kerry, Andrea,
Harmony, Ellie and Chris Oliver
who have all been on our stage
in the past 6 months.
So come and support.
On Friday 19th January
at LCB Depot
(opposite the exchange)
Thanks for reading.
Peace, Love & Poetry
Kyle.
