Get Mouthy relaunched
July 10th
This was special.
a new venue.
Our flyers posted
on the windows and walls
In the cool bar area
of the big difference venue.
Proudly proclaiming
that Get Mouthy was back.
Our first night. Would it go well?
Would we be hoarded
out of the back and shot,
or dragged along over hot coals,
faces burning from embarrassment?
A brand spanking new banner
adorned the wall of the basement room.
On the centre of the stage the mic loomed.
our Spotify playlist filtered through the air,
there was a buzz,
energy and excitement tingled neck hairs.
Was it going to be a good night?
would we get things right?
2 new hosts learning the ropes
And a room full of amazing artists
who we didn't want to let down.
Well, it was brilliant.
The poetry was great.
The beauty of poetry shows
is that you never fully know
what the next person
is going to bring to the mic,
so, we had thoughtful sad poems,
Love poems,
Love poems that were not love poems.
Funny comedic work.
All held together perfectly
by the wonderful Carolina.
In the first half we welcomed back
Carolyn Turner,
Chuck the poet,
Nakeisha,
Joey and Maria.
Who all offered something
unique and powerful,
The audience gave
everyone support.
It was a lovely community vibe.
The half ended with a great song
from Dean and his guitar.
In the second half
I chucked out a couple of poems
(Begining of a shameless plug)
from my latest book,
Endless nightmares
Available from Amazon!
(end of Shameless plug!)
then Hilario took to the mic
and blew us away
with his passion
and beautiful words.
Check out his Instagram page,
instagram.com/fluentinboth
which features poets that have
multiple languages and backgrounds
and is a fascinating place
where you can hear some poetry in a language
you may not know, but will still feel moved by.
It was also Hilario's birthday,
so many happy wishes were given.
Following Hilario, we welcomed back Bhavesh Ramji.
Whose dream like meditative pieces
gave us space to breath and feel as one.
Bhavesh was followed
by a second poem
from the always bubbly Joey,
and a second piece from Nakeisha.
And to round of proceedings off
we had a couple of poems
from the legend that is Poetman.
It was a beautiful evening,
bringing together
old and new faces.
All sharing their art.
Get Mouthy will be back
at the big difference
on 21st August
Where we will be
featuring our first headline act,
the amazing Nancy Dawkins.
Seriously not to be missed!
The Leicester spoken word poetry scene
is a really special place,
every night has something amazing
to bring to the table,
and we all get together
and share in this feast of words
So, before our next night
there is Some-Antics
at LCB Depot
on 21st July.
Always a brilliant night,
who have always supported me
and encouraged me to get better
and helped me find the strength to do this.
So please come along to that if you can.
And thank you to all of the performers
and audience members.
It is all about you,
without you it would just be me and Carolina
shouting at an empty room.
You make the magic. So, thank you.
Peace love and Poetry
Kyle.
