Get Mouthy 12
There was a buzz,
a hive of activity
thriving in the bar.
Will someone get the bee rs in
I hear shouted,
buzz off, the reply.
None of this happened.
I may have been
in a 'deep heat' high.
Shoulder, back, arm pain
bringing wincing tears
to my eyes,
but ever the professional
I keep going.
When I say
I keep going
I clearly mean
handing over all duties
to our poetry queen.
I was a mere court jester
to proceedings.
The crown only fit
for one head,
I had one of those
hats with the
dangling balls instead!
So, as I floated on
a menthol-based cloud,
apologising loudly
to everyone around
for the scent that lingered
through the crowd.
We travelled down
to our basement, deep underground.
Through the overgrown
forest of red brick trees,
plastered with leaves
showing other nights
put on by our
fantastic venue.
We ventured
into that cavern
of light and sound.
I looked down
upon the crowd
all gasping for breath,
choking on menthol fumes
as I floated
somewhere overhead.
Like a wandering lonely cloud...
that's what I'm supposed
to be doing,
talking about poetry!
I knew it would
come to me eventually.
We had a lot of new faces,
welcomed a lot of new
members into our little
(actually, quite large) family.
Voices that really touched the heart.
Brought tears to even the driest of eyes,
Made us smile, and laugh,
showed absolute perfection
in their craft.
The words floated through the air,
fruit that could be plucked with care,
taken home locked in your heart,
to keep, grow and share.
Across the ground, seeds
of poetry were sown,
to be nurtured watered and grown,
so that when we return
a forest of poetrees will have grown.
So, to everyone that performed
in the open mic, a huge thank you.
This night is all about you.
Me and Carolina just give you
the space to bring your magic.
And talking of magic.
Kamisha. Wow.
A brilliant headline set
with a blend of singing and poetry,
which grabbed you by the wrist
and took you with it on a journey.
I always walk away so proud.
last night though, sat upon
my floating cloud
I was beaming.
The talent on display
was gleaming
like the diamonds
in the queens crown.
My jesters hat cast aside,
and hopefully by next month
I'll feel more human.
Peace, Love & Poetry.
